Deleting Your Browsing History

How to Clear Your Browsing History

To protect your privacy online, especially in situations of domestic or family violence, or for any other important reason, it is recommended to regularly clear your browsing history. Here’s how to do it on the main browsers:


Google Chrome

  1. Click the three dots in the top-right corner.
  2. Select History, then History again.
  3. Click Clear browsing data.
  4. Choose the time range (e.g., Last hour or All time).
  5. Check Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files.
  6. Click Clear data.


Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner.
  2. Select History, then Clear Recent History.
  3. Choose the time range to clear (e.g., Everything).
  4. Click the arrow next to Details to expand options.
  5. Check Cookies and Cache (and Browsing & Download History, if desired).
  6. Click Clear Now.


Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the three dots in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
  3. Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
  4. Select the time range.
  5. Check Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files.
  6. Click Clear now.


Safari (Mac)

  1. From the menu bar, click Safari > Clear History…
  2. Choose the time range to clear.
  3. Click Clear History.

To clear only the cache:

  1. Click Safari > Preferences > Advanced.
  2. Check Show Develop menu in menu bar.
  3. From the menu bar, click Develop > Empty Caches.


TIPS FOR ALL BROWSERS

  • Consider using Private Browsing (called Incognito mode in some browsers), which doesn’t save your browsing history.
  • Remember to clear cookies and site data if you want to remove all traces of your browsing.
